HOURS: 25 hours per week (Monday- Friday with occasional weekends and/or evening hours)
RATE: $24.91 per hour
START DATE: Immediately

GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY:
With 39+ years of operations, Skills for Change is a highly respected non-profit charity with a province wide reputation for pioneering programs that respond to shifting immigration and workplace trends and lead to employment. Skills for Change provides multi-sited employment, job skills, career exploration through mentoring and entrepreneurship, job development, mental health and wellness, language and settlement programs and services throughout the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Areas.
PROGRAM NATURE AND SCOPE:
To provide quality care with a child-centered approach to the children participating in the CNC program ensuring health and safety while the parents are participating in IRS Hub programs such as LINC, ELT, Employment Workshops and Health Informatics.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Follow the CNC Requirements
- Planning of appropriate activities for children in accordance with the written program philosophy
- Welcome and interact with newcomer children and their parents
- Provide activities and experiences that meet the individual developmental needs of the children
- Set up and take down equipment and other items used in the program
- Maintain records, including a daily record, Attendance Form, Child Profile, and Session Management Form
- Inspect CNC space for safety issues and seek corrective action according to procedures
- Work with team members to create a positive environment
- Participate in the distribution, collection, and analysis of participant surveys and other evaluation and tracking procedures
- Participate in team meetings; staff meetings and committee meetings as required
- Evaluate the effectiveness of service delivery and present solutions to enhance services on an ongoing basis
- Other duties as assigned by Management
- Participate in all meetings as required
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Develop and implement daily activities that support and promote the development of newcomer children – in long term programs, short term programs or combined care programs (as applicable)
- When short term care is provided, an understanding of the programming needs of children who drop in for care for short periods of time
- When combined care is provided, recognition of the issues associated when caring for children on a short and long-term basis together, especially issues associated with transitions and separation
- Understanding and awareness of settlement issues and the concerns of newcomer children and parents
- Engage children in activities that support a child-centred approach
- Guide and assist children in the development of proper eating, dressing and toilet habits
- Assess the skills, abilities, interests and needs of children
- Discuss progress or problems of children with parents and other staff members
- Attend meetings and workshops as directed by the manager
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- The job involves working with young children and includes lifting and participating in physical activities. It may also involve the supervision of children and physical activities out of doors.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Post-Secondary education in Early Childhood Education, Bachelor of Education, or related programs required
- Must be a Registered Early Childhood Educator with membership in good standing at the College of Early Childhood Educators
- Current first aid and CPR certification required
- Current proof of immunization (all required under the Child Care and Early Years Act), COVID-19 and Tuberculosis status required
- Current Criminal Reference Check, vulnerable sector available prior to starting employment is required
- Team player with initiative, energy, persistence and positive attitude towards change
- Experience working with children between the ages of 19 months to 5 years of age and delivering classroom and online activities
- Sensitivity to, and understanding of, issues and barriers faced by women, newcomers, immigrants, youth, and other disadvantaged groups is required
- Excellent verbal, written communication, and client service skills
- Strong problem-solving skills and organizational skills
- Proficiency in Windows, MS Office, internet use
- Knowledge of CNC program would be an asset
- Familiar with Childminding Monitoring, Advisory and Support (CMAS) is an asset
