Skills for Change is committed to supporting skills-building learning and employment opportunities for more people in skilled trades. This program prepares participants for employment in the General Carpentry sector.
Overview:
The General Carpentry/Electrician Pre-Apprenticeship Program is a tuition-free program (funded by the Government of Ontario) that is designed to help participants who are 18+ transition to an apprenticeship in the trade of General Carpentry. As a participant, you will receive the equivalent of Level 1 General carpenter apprentice training as well as exposure to the trade of Construction and Maintenance Electrician. It will provide you with the academic and practical experience required to succeed in the skilled trades. Training will be followed by a paid work placement of 8 to 12 weeks for those students who attend all training and fully participate in employment prep workshops, including submission of all required materials.

ELIGIBILITY:
Applicants who are 18 years of age or older, live in Toronto or GTA and are eligible to study & work in Ontario Secondary School (Ontario Grade 12) diploma, or equivalent, at or above the general level.

*Selection of successful applicants will be based on a measurable commitment to the training program and a goal of registration as a General Carpenter apprentice, or registration in a related trade (such as Construction and maintenance electrician)
