The WORKING IN series is a brand new program hosted by Skills for Change featuring experts from a variety of diverse and exciting professional industries. We’re pleased to announce that the first event in the series was a big success; we had a great turn out and an engaging first keynote speaker.
For our inaugural WORKING IN event, Skills for Change partnered up with CPA Ontario for a presentation and networking session all about working in finance and accounting. The event featured a keynote address by Katie Salem, CPA, CA, an expert on the finance industry who discussed the benefits of obtaining a CPA designation. Katie Salem is a dynamic financial professional who has had over twenty years of experience in the Financial Services Industry. She started her career at EY, a professional services firm, and progressed through various practice areas before launching her own public accounting practice. Katie Salem shared her career journey working at EY and RBC, two leading finance and accounting companies. Katie also talked about how obtaining CPA designation allows for flexibility and diversity in finance and accounting careers.
The event also featured a panel discussion and speed-networking with mentors representing different companies including TD Bank, Bank of Montreal and CIBC. The mentors shared their professional journeys and career tips to over 30 internationally trained professionals in attendance. There was an excellent group of mentors and speakers which made for an unique and informative networking event.
We want to thank everyone who helped make WORKING IN a success! Thank you to CPA Ontario for sponsoring our first Working in Series event and bringing in leading industry experts to mentor internationally trained professionals and new immigrants. Thank you to Carmen and Ghada of CPA Ontario for facilitating the event and for your continued support.
