A Day of Caring featuring ENBRIDGE

 Skills for Change recently teamed up with The United Way for “A Day of Caring” featuring Enbridge! Enbridge is a Canadian multinational energy transportation company that has been serving its community for over 170 years; delivering natural gas to two million homes and businesses across Ontario. Their Gas Distribution IT department took the time to come speak with us about their education and career paths for this valuable event and networking opportunity.

Topics discussed included an overview of Enbridge and the departments within the organization. Also Included in the conversation were some key skills and knowledge requirements that are helpful in gaining employment in the technology sector. The Enbridge team provided helpful advice on preparing an effective resume, how to present in an interview, and so much more.

Some of the speakers spoke about their transition as a newcomer navigating the different culture and system, and highlighted the importance of networking. Many of the speakers mentioned that networking helped them land their jobs. One of the speakers also talked about the importance of volunteering, and gained Canadian experience through different volunteering opportunities. 

There was a lively interaction between the speakers and the attendees about various career related topics. Renata Lim, one of the attendees of this event wrote ” I want to say thank you to Skills for Change and to the speakers. TTheir advices were so special and valuable to me. “

This experience was a fantastic networking opportunity with actual Enbridge IT professionals and was a great chance to learn about the work they perform on a day-to-day basis.
