Kindness Shines in the City
On Thursday, December 13th, 2018, Skills for Change hosted a celebration to mark the 25th years of Mentoring program called Kindness Shines In the City! It was a fun and unique opportunity for mentors and mentees, as well as employers and local community businesses to network with each other.
There was evening live entertainment by Boat of Us, a music act featuring guitarist Adrian Grigoras, and vocalist Ioana Nistor! The event also featured a keynote address from Dr. Paula Green who delivered an inspirational speech about the history of kindness and mentoring, and how mentoring and kindness impacts communities.
In addition, the evening had Mentoring Appreciation Award, mentoring story shared by mentor Wayne Haymer who had been a Skills for Change mentor since 1996, followed by a networking activity delivered by Lynda Davey-Longstreet.
Skills for Change’s CEO Surranna Sandy welcomed everyone and spoke about the organization’s history of providing strong mentoring services for internationally trained professionals.
To align with the mentoring event Kindness Shines in the City, Skills for Change also released its quarterly magazine Skills for Changing Times which featured an article highlighting “25 Years of Mentoring at Skills for Change”! The magazine includes interviews, stories, events and so much more about our twenty-five years of championing the importance of mentorship for newcomers.
