Humans of Skills for Change: Ruth Mengistu
Waheed Amin is a Bridge to Work Specialist for Internationally Trained Professionals at the Skills for Change.
He was born in Kabul, City of Afghanistan & he has international experience in Human Resources & Administration Management.
He began his relationship with Skills for Change by Volunteering in one of the Employment Ontario Office sites in March 2018 & soon after, Waheed was offered a full-time employment at Skills for Change. Until now he has contributed in different roles as Clients Engagement Support Specialist, Program Administrator – Mentoring Coach for the Skills for Change Mentoring Program in partnership with TRIEC, Employer Engagement team member and currently serving as a Bridge to Work Specialist for the Health Informatics Department.
Waheed completed his Bachelor’s degree in Communications & Journalism and College Diploma in English Language and Literature. He started his career as Executive Administrative Officer and he was promoted as the Employee Relations Manager & then became the General Manager for posting diplomats abroad at the Human Resources department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan. In his role at the Ministry, Waheed has travelled to 20+ countries. Waheed grew in his role to become Career Diplomat & worked with different departments at the Embassy and Permanent Mission of Afghanistan in Austria. He returned to Afghanistan after his diplomatic mission was officially ended.
After relocating to Canada, he has started volunteering with the Afghan community centres in Toronto and then started volunteering and working with Skills for Change with mentoring support to HR and Admin Internationally Trained Professionals for the Skills For Change clients. Waheed has recently completed his Diploma in Management and Leadership with Canadian Business College and our most recent 2020 recipient of the Skills for Change Annual Citizenship Award.
