GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY:

Skills for Change offers a range of resources, supports and service components to respond to employment needs of individuals and the skilled labour needs of employers, and to help individuals on a path to higher skill training and employment. This program also supports client goals to successfully integrate by offering individual counselling/crisis counselling with a certified counsellor.

 

PROGRAM NATURE AND SCOPE:

To provide high quality and responsive services to support refugee and immigrant clients within Skills for Change. Working within the Immigrant, Refugee & Settlement Hub to assist clients to successfully adjust, integrate into the Canadian environment and become self-sufficient. With the increasing international refugee crisis, this role will work primarily with implementing immigrant refugee programs and projects including social mentoring, networking, settlement, research, and case study/blog posts writing that will support the mental health and well-being of clients.

 

The ideal candidate has:

  • Full understanding of the CRPO’s definitions of clinical supervision, clinical supervisor, and the scope of practice of psychotherapy
  • Knowledge of PHIPA legislation and the Psychotherapy Act.
  • Significant experience working with vulnerable and marginalized populations
  • Extensive experience in crisis intervention theories and methods to safely and effectively work with clients in crisis
  • Demonstrated commitment to high standards of culturally responsive service delivery within an anti-racism and anti-oppression framework
  • Demonstrated ability in using discretion in dealing with highly sensitive and confidential issues
  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills
  • Proficient in planning, implementing and evaluating group activities;
  • Good organizational skills, ability to multi-task while maintaining a high level of accuracy
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends if required

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Oversee crisis counsellor in day-to-day operations, ensuring compliance and high quality of services
  • Evaluates and regularly reviews performance strengths and issues with assigned staff in keeping with agency policy and service standards
  • Ensure that staff relations and work conditions promote a barrier-free, non-discriminatory environment consistent with the Agency’s anti-discrimination/harassment policies
  • Document the design of new program models and assess service delivery and enhancement as required
  • Identify new service and program needs and develop suitable program design
  • Research and develop proposals for new programs and collaborate with other leaders to write proposals
  • Keep updated of policy changes, immigration trends, regulations and program development as it relates to service delivery and client needs
  • Work with staff to create appropriate processes to ensure coordinated and integrated service delivery to clients across all the agency’s programs and services
  • Provide leadership in developing programs and organizational plans in collaboration with other leaders
  • Produce monthly management narrative reports and agency statistical reports
  • Collect, analyze, track and monitor monthly, quarterly and annual statistical reports and statistics on an ongoing basis to ensure program targets are being met on a timely basis
  • Develop and implement corrective action when necessary if program targets are falling behind
  • Assess clients to determine eligibility, need for service, the nature of the problem, and personalized program recommendations
  • Develop and implement an individualized treatment plan with the goal of improving psychological and physical functioning
  • Lead individual therapy sessions with clients within the context of treatment programs and provide ongoing support throughout the client experience.
  • Ensure that clients are effectively and efficiently served by the monitoring and tracking program outcomes and targets to ensure they are being met in a timely manner
  • Intervene and support staff in dealing with difficult clients/situations when necessary
  • Provide services necessary to maintain compliance with funding rules and regulations for SfC programming and adhere to all program reporting mechanisms as laid out in the contractual agreement
  • Monitor case management of client files; document activities in client files, follow up on action plans, additional counselling.
  • Audit client files, schedule and client records to confirm documentation and safety needs are met
  • Ensure files are organized and available for review by the funder and program supervisor and management which includes mentor/mentee files and settlement client files
  • Maintains current on relevant benchmark clinical practices, models, related theory and research
  • Identify and develop new services and resources based on client needs and work at continually enhancing service delivery and increasing business intelligence
  • Monitor and track the smooth and ongoing operation of cross program referrals and shared resources
  • Work closely with other community organizations to ensure smooth referral processes and Client Service Planning and Coordination (CSPC).
  • Outreach and partnership development with various community agencies, business and individual sponsors of refugees to recruit clients and also establish partnerships with respect to program delivery (workshops), itinerant services and client referrals;
  • Liaise with Employer Engagement and Program Marketing teams in the planning and organization of special and networking events
  • Represent SfC amongst community partners at external committees, network meetings, outreach events, etc.
  • Maintain a positive professional relationship and communication links with public and relevant stakeholders
  • Participate in all required meetings and support SfC events
  • Handle additional tasks and duties as required by the Manager, Programs and Services

 

REQUIREMENTS QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters’ Degree in Social Work, Counselling Psychology or related field is required
  • Mandatory CRPO membership (must be in good standing with no restrictions). Other related professional membership and/or designations considered an asset (eg. College of Psychologists of Ontario, Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers or Canadian Certified Counsellor)
  • Minimum 5 years experience providing clinical supervision in both individual and group settings
  • Minimum 3 years of demonstrated clinical experience with clients in assessment and treatment modalities with practical knowledge of relevant legislation.
  • Certification in one or more standardized treatment modalities such as CBT, TFCBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, and OCD training is a definite asset
  • A clear vulnerable sector check is required
  • Second language is considered an asset
