New Initiative launched to build more Black Community Leaders
Toronto, Ontario, January 10, 2023 – Skills for Change (SfC) is pleased to announce Professor Wesley Crichlow of Ontario Tech University will be our Scholar in Residence for our new Black Leadership Institute (BLI). As part of the Canadian Women’s Foundation Investment Readiness Program funded by the Government of Canada’s Social Innovation/Social Finance Strategy, Professor Crichlow will be working with SfC on curriculum development, conduct leadership trainings for aspiring Black leaders, with a focus on Black women leaders, and corporate employer engagement.
Professor Crichlow is a critical race intersectional theorist. His teachings and research focus on Anti-Black Racism and Decolonization; Critical Equity and Diversity Studies; Critical Race Theory; Race and Queer Criminology; State, Race, Masculinities & Prison Subculture; Race, Ethnicity & Crime Within Canadian System; Black-lives-Matter as Racial Justice Love and Activism. Professor Crichlow teaches at Ontario Tech University within the youth and criminal justice discipline for over 25 years
Professor Crichlow has been our great supporter of our Black Community Access Programming department as mentor and trainer. He was highly instrumental in establishing our Black Leadership Institute on Social Action for Change (BLISC) and has been the champion of Black leadership knowledge and empowerment within SfC.
The goal of the BLI is to empower Black Women and Black identified professionals to develop leadership skills within the context of Anti-Black Racism. The program will have two streams; one for corporate clients looking to facilitate training for Black employees and create impactful internal programming and an individual stream that will offer subsidized training to interested professionals within the community.
Welcome on-board Professor Crichlow!

The BLI is offered within Skills for Change’s Black Community Access Programming department (BCAP). Our BCAP offers Black Canadians access to resources and programming needed most in the Black community, including employment, entrepreneurship, leadership development, youth and women’s specific programming, with a focused lens on combating Anti-Black Racism in the community and workplace.
