Trades Win Support Program

The Trades Win Support Program is for internationally trained tradespersons:

  • Electricians (construction maintenance and industrial)
  • Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanics (HRAC)
  • Industrial Millwrights (Industrial Mechanics)
  • Plumbers
  • Welding
This sector-specific bridging program helps skilled tradespersons become licensed and job ready. The program includes:

Employment Preparation

  • Trade-Specific Technical and Workplace Language Training
  • Labour Market Overview and Orientation
  • Job Search Strategies

Certificate of Qualification Exam Preparation

  • A 144-hour exam preparation course taught by qualified instructors at Humber College or Stanford International
  • Canadian codes, rules and regulations
  • Technical skills upgrading
  • Exam preparation for CWB ticket for Welders

Participants will benefit from

  • Job development: job leads, connections to employers
  • Work Experience Placement: builds your resume, and in some cases, leads to permanent employment
  • Mentoring: mentors provide insights into skilled trades jobs and help build professional networks
  • Employer training incentives are available for on-the-job training
  • Test to Hire: a program incorporating workplace experience that allows you to test a job and prove your capabilities to an employer
  • Get your WHMIS & Working at Heights Certificates

Eligibility Criteria

  • Canadian citizen, landed immigrant or convention refugee – Refugee Claimant with valid work permit
  • 4-5 years of work experience in a related trade
  • Grade 10 or equivalent education
  • Demonstrate English Language Proficiency (Canadian Language Benchmark Assessment)

Technical Training Schedule – 2021

Electricians (309A, 442A)

The registration for the electrician cohort is NOW OPEN.

The electrician cohort starts on May 3, 2021.
The 12-week technical training will include:

  • 10 weeks of online training: Monday to Thursday from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM
  • 2 weeks in person at Humber college’s Trade department
