An innovative approach to keep seniors active and engaged
The program involves an innovative approach to providing services to seniors, as our sessions combine activities that are both intellectually and physically stimulating in order to keep seniors active and engaged. Moreover, art and physical activities are used as vehicles to empower seniors to increase their overall well-being, and connection to the community. In addition, our Art Showcase Events allow seniors to share their work with the wider community and feel valued. These activities represent a new approach to seniors’ programming for our organization.
The main objective of the Active Seniors, Active Communities program is to support the social participation and inclusion of seniors, by providing them with:
- Opportunities to lead and participate in physical wellness workshops (e.g. Tai Chi, Yoga, meditation and other light exercise activities)
- Opportunities to lead and participate in art discussions and workshops on drawing, painting, sculpture or dance
- Display and present their art to the local community during Art Showcase nights, while networking and making new contacts
- Opportunities to take a lead role in designing project activities, and assessing their effectiveness through volunteering and the Seniors Advisory Committee
