GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY:
With 37 years of operations, Skills for Change is a highly respected non-profit charity with a province wide reputation for pioneering programs that respond to shifting immigration and workplace trends and lead to employment. We offer a range of accelerated programs including mentoring, employment, settlement, language training together with specialized programs for skilled trades, women, and youth. We have 5 locations across the GTA and serve 16,000 clients annually.
PROGRAM NATURE AND SCOPE:
To provide high quality and responsive services to support refugee and immigrant clients within Skills for Change. Working within the Immigrant, Refugee & Settlement Hub in order for clients to successfully adjust, integrate into the Canadian environment and become self-sufficient. With the increasing international refugee crisis, this role will work primarily with implementing immigrant refugee programs and projects including social mentoring, networking, settlement, research, and case study/blog posts writing.
SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Conduct client intake,develop goals and settlement action plans;
- Deliver itinerant services to clients out of community organizations/schools;
- Refer clients to the appropriate internal or external programs/resources in the community to address their individual needs;
- Provide settlement orientation to immigrants and refugees to ensure they have understanding of the Canadian environment;
- Provide relevant services necessary to maintain compliance with funding rules and regulations for SfC programming;
- Conduct/facilitate/organize settlement information orientation and relevant settlement workshops. Topics may include: job search, resume writing, health literacy,legal rights, cross cultural training, etc.;
- Outreach and partnership development with various community agencies, business and individual sponsors of refugees to recruit clients and also establish partnerships with respect to program delivery (workshops), itinerant services and client referrals;
- Assist with connecting clients to language, settlement and employment mentoring programs
- Encourage the utilization of agency and community network resources to forward the best interests of clients and SfC;
- Promotion of SfC services in the community for eligible clients;
- Establish and maintain relationships with other community agencies that provide specialized refugee settlement and social services;
- Service coordination with other agencies to meet client needs;
- Distribute survey and collect data related to the client satisfaction;
- Maintain program and participants records and statistics, and is accountable for inputting accurate data into Salesforce and designated databases;
- Produce narrative and statistical reports to direct leader
- Case manage client files; document activities in client files, follow up on action plans, additional counselling, etc.;
- Prepare and provide timely reporting/statics as required;
- Maintain files organized and available for review by the funder and program supervisor and management which includes mentor/mentee files and settlement client files;
- Immigrant and Refugee integration services;
- Register clients for workshops/information sessions/networking/mentoring activities
- Provides client engagement support coverage as needed at 791 St Clair;
- Work collaboratively with other programs within Skills for Change;
- Attend staff and committee meetings as required;
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the Manager
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES:
- Post-Secondary degree or diploma required in social services or any related field;
- A minimum of 2 years of experience working with immigrants and refugees;
- Understanding of issues of concern to the refugees and immigrants and knowledge of community resources in order to provide the necessary guidance and referrals;
- Demonstrated commitment to high standards of culturally responsive service delivery within an anti-racism and anti-oppression framework;
- Demonstrated high degree of initiative, judgment and problem-solving ability;
- Demonstrated ability in using discretion in dealing with highly sensitive and confidential issues;
- Knowledge of Salesforce would be an asset
- Proficiency in Windows, MS Office, ability to delivery PowerPoint presentations
- Excellent oral and written English communication skills;
- Second language is considered an asset;
- Proficiency in planning, implementing and evaluating group activities;
- Good organizational skills, ability to multi-task while maintaining a high level of accuracy;
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends;
- A clear, mandatory vulnerable sector check is required
