HOURS: 35 hours per week (Monday- Friday, with occasional evening and/or weekend hours)
RATE: $ 14.00
START DATE: Immediately

GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY:
With 37 years of operations, Skills for Change is a highly respected non-profit with a province wide reputation for pioneering programs that respond to shifting immigration and workplace trends and lead to employment. Skills for Change provides multi-sited employment, job skills, career exploration through mentoring and entrepreneurship, job development, and language and settlement programs and services throughout the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Areas.
Reporting to the Manager of Programs and Services, the Outreach Program Co-ordinator, Employment will support settlement project staff and fulfill administrative roles including filing, organization of client information, data input and coordination of services, assist with event planning and outreach, coordination of workshop events, providing information and referrals to project participants, and other tasks as required.
SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Research and Outreach of Immigrant and Refugee Settlement Services
- Researching potential outreach catchment areas and conducting environmental surveys to identify potential outreach opportunities in the community.
- Conduct outreach and partnership development with various community, businesses and individual sponsors of refugees as part of client intake
- Pre-screen clients, for settlement programs and refer clients to the youth counselor
- Provide potential partnership contacts for further discussions to the supervisor
- Assist the staff with providing presentations in the community organizations and special events, job fairs or information fairs.
Refugee and Immigrant Integration Services
- Promotion of services in the community for eligible clients
- Identifying potential partnerships among community organizations and providing the contacts and leads to program staff and supervisor for further consideration
- Establish and maintain relationships with other community agencies that provide specialized refugee settlement and social services
- Assist the program staff with Service coordination with other agencies
- to meet community needs and facilitate access to settlement services to clients
- Prepare blog and social media posts, case studies, and other written documentation of program activities, events, and outcomes
- Assist in preparing flyers and outreach packages
- Assist in promoting programs and services via social media
- Coordinate in assisting with settlement-related information sessions and promoting them
Mentoring
- Conduct outreach for the purposes of engaging suitable mentors to provide support to mentees
- Assist with Organizing social mentoring sessions such as interactive cafes with hands-on activities supported by pre-screened mentors
- Distribute survey and collect data related to the mentoring/mentee supports
Administration
- Assist with the distribution, collection, collation and analysis of participant surveys and other evaluation methodology mid-way and at the completion of services
- Help to Maintain files organized
- Assist with Register clients for workshops/information sessions/networking/mentoring activities
- Assist with blog posts, white papers and conducts research to prepare reports
General
- Work collaboratively with other programs within Skills for Change
- Attend staff and committee meetings as required
- Other duties as assigned by the program staff or supervisors

- Understanding of refugee and immigrant barriers (families, women, youth)
- Knowledge of and familiarity with community resources

- Initiative, energy and persistence in completing assignments
- Positive attitude to change
- Proficiency in Windows and MS Office Knowledge; blogs, website
- Problem-solving skills and resourcefulness
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to multitask.
REQUIREMENTS:
- College diploma in Social Service Worker or a related field;
- And/or currently enrolled in a post-secondary institution;
- And/or relevant direct experience working with newcomers, equity seeking communities;
- Applicants must have reached the age of 15 and not yet reached the age of 30 upon commencement of employment;
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada;
- International students are not eligible;
- Ability to secure a police Vulnerable Sector Check is mandatory and must be provided prior to starting employment.
