CONTRACT TYPE: Contract (8 weeks)

HOURS: 35 hours per week (Remote work, Monday-Friday with occasional evening and/or weekend hours)

RATE: $ 14.25

START DATE: August 9, 2021

END DATE: October 4, 2021

About Black HR Professionals of Canada: BlackHRPC was founded in 2020 and is a volunteer led not-for-profit social purpose collective for the advancement and representation of Black HR professionals across Canada in the workplace, on executive teams, as entrepreneurs, and on Boards. Using a lens of member collaboration, lived experience, and support to confront anti-Black racism, BlackHRPC provides: Networking Events, Professional Development, Career Counselling, Resource Sharing, Volunteer Opportunities, Professionals Listing & Job Posting Portal, HR Expertise Referrals, Mental Health Support, and Mentorship.

About Skills for Change (host): With 38 years of operations, Skills for Change is a highly respected non-profit charity with a province wide reputation for pioneering programs that respond to shifting immigration and workplace trends and lead to employment. We offer a range of accelerated programs including mentoring, employment, settlement, language training together with specialized programs for skilled trades, women, and youth. We have 5 locations across the GTA and serve 16,000 clients annually. We believe we are in the best position to provide thought leadership through evidence-based programming, impact stories and proactive policy advocacy using knowledge mobilization products.

About the role: The Membership Sales Representative functions as the coordinator and liaison between Black HR Professionals of Canada and its members and sponsors. This includes answering queries, providing information, devising regular communication activities, writing content, designing and promoting events and programs and maintaining membership and volunteer records.

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Administer all aspects of membership engagement for BlackHRPC, from serving as the first point of contact for all inquiries. Create and organize programs and events to attract new members. Create marketing and promotional materials and content
  • Develop and implement a membership engagement strategy to recruit new members in 2021 & 2022. Coordinate a membership drive to recruit and secure new members including Black HR Professionals and students as well as securing corporate sponsor supporters
  • Research and draft a mentorship program with templates, tools and activities based on best practices from other orgs.
  • Research and draft a volunteer program with templates, tools and activities based on best practices from other orgs.
  • Research and draft a sponsorship program with templates, tools and activities based on best practices from other orgs.
  • Create tools and templates to maintaining records, tracking membership figures and ensuring the accurate recording of payment of membership fees. Collect data, track membership statistics and prepare reports. Maintain and update electronic membership records. Process all Black HRPC member applications, renewals and resignations.
  • Conduct and share research to support Black HR Professionals. Compile information and best practices from other membership organizations and other organizations serving equity seeking groups.
  • Design new member welcome communication packages. Create a report of recommendations to keep membership numbers up to date and ensure ongoing member satisfaction.
  • Demonstrate skills as an outstanding communicator and connector with a talent for building strong relationships between members, sponsors and the organization.
  • Attend and support all events and activities for existing and prospective members and sponsors.
  • Attend all Board meetings and volunteer meetings. Create and circulate meetings minutes and notes.
  • Create a weekly log of activities completed. Submit final log to Skills for Change and Black HRPC at the end of the contract.
  • Other tasks as required.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Applicants must have reached the age of 15 and not yet reached the age of 30 upon commencement of employment.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada. International students are not eligible.
  • Applicants must demonstrate an understanding of Anti-Black Racism and have connections to the Black community for success in this role.
