REPORTS TO: HR Specialist, Skills for Change and the Founder of Black HRPC

CONTRACT TYPE: Contract (8 weeks)

HOURS: 35 hours per week (Remote work, Monday-Friday with occasional evening and/or weekend hours)

RATE: $ 14.25

START DATE: June 14, 2021

END DATE: August 10, 2021

About Black HR Professionals of Canada: BlackHRPC was founded in 2020 and is a volunteer led not-for-profit social purpose collective for the advancement and representation of Black HR professionals across Canada in the workplace, on executive teams, as entrepreneurs, and on Boards. Using a lens of member collaboration, lived experience, and support to confront anti-Black racism, BlackHRPC provides: Networking Events, Professional Development, Career Counselling, Resource Sharing, Volunteer Opportunities, Professionals Listing & Job Posting Portal, HR Expertise Referrals, Mental Health Support, and Mentorship.

About Skills for Change (host): With 38 years of operations, Skills for Change is a highly respected non-profit charity with a province wide reputation for pioneering programs that respond to shifting immigration and workplace trends and lead to employment. We offer a range of accelerated programs including mentoring, employment, settlement, language training together with specialized programs for skilled trades, women, and youth. We have 5 locations across the GTA and serve 16,000 clients annually. We believe we are in the best position to provide thought leadership through evidence-based programming, impact stories and proactive policy advocacy using knowledge mobilization products.

About the role: The Marketing Coordinator builds and maintains a positive public image exclusively for Black HR Professionals of Canada. They create media, including press releases and social media messages, that promotes shape public opinion of our organization, increase awareness and coordinates with building our brand and promoting BlackHRPC offerings.

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Studying Black HRPC’s objectives, research best practices to draft a marketing plan for 2021 & 2022 including social media and communications weekly activities for 12 months. Design related content and marketing materials for the organization
  • Research best practices to draft branding, marketing, public relations, and communications strategies that positively influence public opinion and promote our events, ideas and services.
  • Create, update and maintain content for the upcoming BlackHRPC website. Assist the website developer with website setup
  • Write communications copy and draft grant applications and sponsorship requests to promote and support our organization
  • Establish and maintain relationships with volunteers and member Black Human Resources professionals, community members, corporations sponsors, and other stakeholders.
  • Research best practices for virtual conferences and design an event plan for a virtual HR conference including identifying list of potential session topics, speakers, corporate sponsors and logistics along with a communication and promotions plan.
  • Prepare copy and edit and update all organizational publications, newsletters, surveys, and promotional materials.
  • Support the establishment and maintenance of relationships with members, community, corporations and stakeholders
  • Respond to requests for information from all sources in consultation with the Board contact from BlackHRPC
  • Attend and support the planning of events, programs and initiatives to maintain interest in our work and accomplishments. Attend all Board meetings and volunteer meetings. Create and circulate meetings minutes and notes.
  • Create a weekly log of activities completed. Submit final log to Skills for Change and Black HRPC at the end of the contract
  • Other tasks as required.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Applicants must have reached the age of 15 and not yet reached the age of 30 upon commencement of employment.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada. International students are not eligible.
  • Applicants must demonstrate an understanding of Anti-Black Racism and have connections to the Black community for success in this role.
