HOURS: 35 hours per week (Monday – Friday with occasional evening and/ or weekends hours)

SALARY: Commensurate with experience

GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY:

With 40 years of operations, Skills for Change is a highly respected non-profit charity with a province wide reputation for pioneering programs that respond to shifting immigration and workplace trends and lead to employment. We offer a range of accelerated programs including mentoring, employment, settlement, language training together with specialized programs for skilled trades, women, and youth. We have 5 locations across the GTA and serve 16,000 clients annually. We believe we are in the best position to provide thought leadership through evidence-based programming, impact stories and proactive policy advocacy using knowledge mobilization products.

 

SUMMARY:

Skills for Change believes the future of Employment Services requires a deep commitment to trauma informed counselling and personalized care.  We are looking for an entrepreneurial leader with experience in the social impact sector who can help us transform our work, grow our team and move from a transactional approach to a relational one with our employment programs and services.   • An entrepreneurial mindset, with a strong understanding of the foundations of change management, community engagement and demonstrated experience leading in a dynamic environment.

  • Believes in the power of social programs as a means to help people build a better life.
  • Flexible, responsive, and open to new ways of thinking and problem-solving and a willingness to learn.
  • Has a strong affinity (and even a passion) for data and how it can be used to inform operational decision marking and strategic business case development.
  • Understanding of case management approaches to care and program delivery is ideal.
  • Strong understanding of how trauma can impact a person’s quality of life and barriers to employment.
  • Believes that collaboration is the name of the game to get things done.
  • Leadership experience in social impact, non-profit, healthcare or start-ups and can demonstrate how this experience relates to the role.

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITES:

  • Leads the day-to-day operations of Skills for Change’s community engagement activities and employment services including managing geographically dispersed staff.
  • Leads and facilitates staff to develop community engagement activities with an intersectional lens, including auditing and iterating current processes.
  • Conducts project-specific research, including in-depth interviews with knowledge experts and literature reviews on anti-racism, Indigeneity, equity, & community engagement strategies to reduce racism and increase immigrant inclusion to reduce barriers to employment.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with a diverse range of community partners and funders.
  • Provides input on equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives, particularly as it relates to immigrant inclusion and barriers to employment.
  • Develops and implements a comprehensive community engagement and outreach plan for new and existing Employment Ontario and other programs activities, detailing goals, objectives, and performance standards for programs.
  • Develops new programs and outreach strategies to develop relationships with groups facing multiple barriers to the labour market.
  • Supports the organization-wide collaboration to better integrate Employment and Community Services within the organization.
  • In collaboration with the Manager, Employment Services, leads the transformation to a client centred, data driven, case management and trauma informed, vocational training approach to Employment Services.
  • Support the senior leadership team with developing and implementing a strategic plan for the Employment Ontario Employment Services Transformation.
  • Build a high-performing team to align with the organization’s strategic direction for transformation.
  • Instill a climate of success within the team by strong, supportive leadership and a positive attitude to facilitate a client-centred approach to care.
  • Monitors deliverables of program teams and provides direction to team
  • Develop and improve processes and policies based on quality assurance requirements and taking into account intersectional perspectives.
  • Work closely with other program managers to build best practices across teams.
  • Collaborates with staff teams across internal areas of work toward continuous improvement and innovation of internal EDI practices and strategies, including program, product and/or service innovation; funding innovation and systems innovation.
  • Leads or assist with the development of proposals to public and private funding organizations, based on emerging opportunities throughout each fiscal year.
  • Participate in public meetings and events to develop and maintain organizational visibility and consistent community and partnership development.
  • Other duties assigned by the Senior Manager, Programs and Services.

REQUIREMENTS QUALIFICATONS:

  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience working in non-profit, social impact, healthcare or in an entrepreneurial environment is required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience leading and delivering programs.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience leading people.
  • Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in change management, with specific examples of leading teams through transformative change at a management level.
  • Demonstrated experience building community based partnerships and collaborations.
  • Experience working with Salesforce, CAMS considered an asset.
  • A clear, mandatory vulnerable sector check.
  • Vocational designation is considered a strong asset.
  • Position requires travel; car is an asset.
