GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY:

Founded in 1982, Skills for Change is a highly respected charity with a province-wide reputation for pioneering programs that respond to shifting immigration and workplace trends and lead to the effective economic and social integration of Immigrants and Refugee s. We offer a range of accelerated programs including mentoring, employment, mental health, entrepreneurship, settlement, language training together withspecialized programs for trades, women, and youth. We have an $8 million annual budget, locations across the GTA and Ham ilton over 100 full-time and part-time staff and serve 16,000 clients annually. Skills for Change has received significant recognition for its achievements in community services delivery and for diversity and inclusion.

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

Skills for Change is looking for a Chief Strategy, Innovation and Growth Officer (CSIGO) to serve as a critical member of the Executive Management Team. In collaboration with the CEO, the CSIGO will articulate and implement a strategic vision for the agency tha t focuses on coordination of managing multiple projects and established priorities across agency departments, assertive and manageable growth; oversee annual update and execution of the strategic plan, build new partnerships to grow and sustain the organization and ex pand influence, manage pilot projects, and serve in a high-profile role representing Skills for Change at key functions, to funders and external stakeholders.

 

The Chief Strategy and Growth Officer will lead SfC’s efforts to identify and execute growth opportunities. The C SIGO will drive merger and acquisition (M&A) activity and collaborate with the CEO to identify opportunities. The CSIGO will evaluate and analyze market forecast and trends and collect intelligence on competition, drive cross-functional business processes as well as grow and maintain business model innovation. The CSIGO will synchronize vision and strategies with agency-centered plans. The CSIGO will interpret long-term plans into short-term projects through project plans and cross functional teamwork. The CSIGO will focus on planning, growth, and business model innovations objectives and display sound judgement on market targeting.

 

The CSIGO will serve as a critical member of the executive management team. In collaboration with the CEO, the CSIGO will art iculate andimplement a strategic vision for the agency that focuses on effective growth; oversee development and implementation of t he strategic plan inclose coordination with SFC’s strategic planning board and management committee, build new partnerships to grow and sustain the organization, and manage special pilot projects.

 

The CSIGO works at the direction and in close collaboration with primary functions:

  • An advisor and innovator—helping shape the organization by bringing forward new innovations and game-changing opportunities.
  • The scout—identifying and interpreting market shifts.
  • The fund developer —making deals and partnerships.
  • The engineer—designing and running a continuous strategic planning and monitoring process.
  • The special project’s leader—tackling miscellaneous high-impact initiatives.
  • The strategic consultant – serving as a mentor and coach to the senior team.

Responsibilities:

In coordination with the Chief Executive Officer and executive team, the CSIGO will play a key role in the agency by focusing on SfC’s future development and directions. The CSIGO will:

  • Refine SfC’s organization strategy, including oversight of related implementation planning and execution activities.
  • Refine SfC’s theory of change, programmatic framework, tools and methodologies, and partnership strategy for enabling the new frame work.
  • Develop and oversee the implementation of a change management program to support the new strategy.
  • Develop and oversee implementation of an annual planning process.
  • Design and oversee implementation of a program evaluation capability across all practice areas.
  • Oversee pilots and other key program and partnership innovations.
  • Develop a knowledge sharing approach to support the new.
  • Support external relations to enhance Counterpart’s profile and build productive external
  • Work directly with the Strategic Planning Committee of SFC’s Board and SFC’s leadership to lead and implement the adopted strategic plan.
  • Help the CEO develop relationships and partnerships in Greater Toronto – Hamilton Area and potential new regions nationally.
  • Expand SfC fundraising efforts in close partnership with the program design, partnership team and SfC’s board and in line with SfC’s new strategic plan.
  • Oversee special pilot projects including coordinating partners and managing staff, working closely with SfC’s staff to set, track and achieve goals; and build and develop their skills.
  • Coordinate with the Program Leaders on developing these new program ideas and pilot projects and on integrating successful pilots into the program departments.
  • Deploy resources efficiently and effectively toward organizational goals, working with staff to balance workload and effort, and provide regular feedback so that key staff can continuously improve their supervision and mentoring skills.
  • Participate in the budget development process and maintain a high level of fiscal responsibility.
  • Support fund development efforts through the promotion and execution of SFC’s fundraising efforts, annual fundraising event, proposal writing and partnering with the relevant teams.
  • Play an active role in strengthening and maintaining the management and governance culture and practices that reflects the organization’s core values confidence, discipline, and professionalism.
  • Monitor emerging needs and interests among key stakeholders such as clients, government, philanthropy, and employees.
  • Research best practices within the workforce development, settlement sector, and social services sector to develop innovation solutions and opportunities.
  • Represent SFC and SFC’s CEO, on relevant committees and task forces, as well as at speaking engagements, conference panels and trainings.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MBA or equivalent degree and work experience.
  • A minimum of eight years leadership experience in a nonprofit, for-profit, government, or philanthropy, working on growth, business development, strategy, planning or related issues.
  • Demonstrated experience building and managing a high-performing team in a multi-tiered structure to include professional development and mentorship.
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of organizational planning, organizational structure, budgeting, administrative operations, and fundraising.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and compile complex data for planning purposes.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to represent the organization externally across a wide range of stakeholders and constituencies.
  • Strong relationship builder with the ability finds common ground, build consensus and strengthen collaboration among diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong community awareness and astuteness.
  • Ability to successfully navigate in a fast-paced, outcomes-driven and entrepreneurial enviroment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the values of diversity, inclusiveness and empowerment.
  • Experience with strategic planning and change managment.
  • Demonstrated successful experience with project management – including organization-wide project implemenations.
  • Familiarity with government-financed projects and budgets.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work with multicultural and diverse teams.
