This 20 hour course is designed to teach you how to create and update a website for your personal portfolio or for your small business. Showcase your successful work, help customer find you, and represent yourself professionally on your website.

  • Website building platforms
  • WordPress Introduction
  • Working with the Control Panel

Day 2

  • Installing WordPress
  • WordPress dashboard
  • Adding and editing pages
  • Create categories
  • Create a new page
  • Adding pages to the menu
  • Editing sidebar

Day 3

  • Using images and text
  • Adding and editing posts
  • Installing plugins
  • Create a contact form

Day 4

  • SEO for WordPress
  • Adding a Favicon
  • Set up analytics
  • WordPress site maintenance

About the Course

Classes are held in a Computer Lab

Completion

  • Certificate of Completion
  • Tax Receipt Form for tuition fees for courses taken in the calendar year. To qualify, the fees must be more than $100 for the year.

Prerequisite

Basic knowledge of Windows, Internet, MS Word, and intermediate level of English.

About the Instructor

Ariadna Jimenez is a professional web designer with years of experience in the field working as a consultant and also working as an IT instructor. Ariadna brings her extensive knowledge in Marketing solutions to help individuals market their products and services in an effective and efficient manner.

Harold Sikkema, (MA, Communications and New Media) is a seasoned designer/developer, who loves to help businesses and organizations craft their own compelling online presence through effective design and code. He has many years of experience developing structured content management tools, online marketing materials, and branded content. Harold has enjoyed international success, having served as consultant in parts of Asia, Europe (to name a few). He has experience in international development, education, activism, and arts fundraising. He currently consults with the Hamilton Conservatory for the Arts and its charitable wing, and teaches Interaction Design at Sheridan College in Oakville, Ontario. Harold fuels his creativity through a photography-based art practice, and augments his technical toolkit (HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, MySQL, WordPress, etc) with a well honed design sensibility (Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator). He loves to share the empowering possibilities of design and code, and views ongoing learning as a vital way to make a difference in the world.
